It’s hard to determine when a career starts, but Marie Webb made her first charcoal drawing at the age of five months. And so now at the age of 25, she could reasonably argue for a career in excess of twenty years. Admittedly, public school got in the way for a while, but the last five years have been non-stop production. In 2013, she became the youngest woman to have a solo show at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia and she gained further recognition by inclusion in the 2013 Halifax Chronicle Herald Arts & Life Honour Roll. In 2014, she received a Canada Council grant for textiles development and in 2015, another for fashion development.

Her work includes drawing, painting, photography, textile and fashion design, and performance. She has participated in collaborations with many other artists but her work is always based on her own experiences of cultural, social, and community celebrations. The book Magic in her Hands: The Art of Marie Webb (Dale Sheppard) and the Dick Miller documentary Magic in her Hands help to tell the story of a remarkable young woman and artist who has changed the lives of all who have worked with her.
